Lib Dems Deliver Stockroom: Stockport's New Cultural Hub Opens to Huge Success

Stockport's exciting new cultural hub, Stockroom, has opened its doors to overwhelming public enthusiasm, with over 15,000 visitors during its opening weekend alone. Delivered by the Liberal Democrat-led Council as part of the town's £1 billion regeneration, Stockroom transforms former retail units in Merseyway Shopping Centre into a vibrant library, arts venue, café, and community space.
The £16 million project, funded through the government's Future High Streets Fund with additional support from Stockport Council, offers something for everyone – from families using learning areas to people working and socializing over coffee.
Council Leader Mark Roberts said: "Stockroom is going to be a place where ideas come to life and people connect – a big part of Stockport's future. I'd encourage everyone to pop in and explore."
Alice Delemare, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Stockport, added: "Stockroom shows what we can achieve when we invest in our communities. This is the Liberal Democrat vision for Stockport in action – bringing people together, supporting culture and creativity, and making our town centre a destination. It's a space that truly belongs to everyone, and I'm proud our team has delivered it."
