Safe Crossing on Garners Lane
The Lib Dem campaign to improve pedestrian safety crossing Garners Lane
Garners Lane is a busy residential road in Davenport and Cale Green, already under significant strain from high traffic volumes and speeding motorists, with incidents including a car overturning outside a resident's home in 2022. Between the crossing at Bramhall Lane junction and the one outside Adswood Primary School, there is a 0.7-mile gap with no safe pedestrian crossing, a stretch that takes around 15 minutes to walk and is used daily by parents with young children, school pupils, and disabled residents. For those living on the north side of Garners Lane, crossing the road is essential to access Davenport, yet they are currently forced to do so without any designated crossing point, or face the poorly lit steps and uneven terrain of the train station car park. Residents on the south side, including those on Bracadale Drive, face the same problem in reverse, with no safe crossing point to help them reach the amenities and transport links on the other side of the road.
Alice Delemare, your local Liberal Democrat candidate, is calling on Stockport Council to deliver the safe pedestrian crossing between Sterndale Road and Roslyn Road that this community needs and deserves.
Safe Garners Lane Crossing
We, the undersigned, call on Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council to immediately investigate the installation of a safe pedestrian crossing on Garners Lane, between Sterndale Road and Roslyn Road. Garners Lane is a busy residential road with a 0.7-mile gap between existing crossings at Bramhall Lane junction and outside Adswood Primary School. We urge the Council to act without delay and commission a full assessment of pedestrian safety on Garners Lane, with a view to installing a crossing at the earliest opportunity.
