Alice Delemare Opposes Overdevelopment on Kennerley Road
Alice Delemare, Liberal Democrat candidate for Davenport & Cale Green, has submitted a formal objection to plans for a large House in Multiple Occupation at 104 Kennerley Road, backing local residents who have raised concerns about the development.
The application (DC/096926) proposes converting the property to accommodate up to sixteen residents. Alice has supported a local petition against the plans and submitted a detailed objection to the Council.
While Alice fully recognises the need for diverse housing options in the area, she shares residents concerns about whether this particular development is appropriate for the site and the local area.
Living Standards
In her objection to the Council, Alice highlighted concerns about the quality of accommodation that would be provided. The basement flat lacks natural daylight and ventilation, and there are no proper communal outdoor spaces for residents. "The design clearly prioritises maximising occupancy rather than providing decent accommodation," Alice noted.
Parking Pressures
The proposal includes only three parking spaces for up to sixteen potential occupants. Alice pointed out that parking and traffic are already significant issues in this part of Davenport and Cale Green. "This would inevitably increase pressure on nearby streets such as Winifred Road and Countess Road, where parking is already limited," she explained, "causing further inconvenience and potential safety hazards for residents."
Waste Management
With only six bins proposed for sixteen residents, Alice questioned whether the waste management arrangements are adequate. She noted that bins on the pavement are already an issue at this property, and the proposal could make this worse.
Conservation Area
Alice also raised concerns about the impact on the local Conservation Area, including the use of uPVC windows and the visual impact of multiple bins and cycle storage at the front of the property.
"I'm standing with local residents on this issue," Alice said. “I've asked the Council to refuse planning permission for this application. Residents deserve housing developments that work for the local community.”
